Night Falls Early

I always find the changing of the clocks back to standard time a bit of a shock. Night falls so early. Although the hours of daylight have not changed appreciably, it feels as though they have with the sun setting just after 4:30. Suddenly it turns into the dark time of year with November being the gloomiest, despite the sunshine earlier in the day.

Music at the Market

I'm always encouraged when I see young people playing classical music. So I stopped to listen and tossed a coin into their bag. We are surrounded by pop culture. If we don't cultivate a love of the arts at an early age, we will lose the potential audience for the future.

Fall Takes its Time

While some trees are now bare, others still sport their green leaves. Change happens differently for each growing thing.



It has been a beautiful fall with colours lasting beyond the usual date. That is one advantage of photographing regularly - I have historical records with which I can compare the changing of the seasons.



I have no complaints about this lingering autumn. There will still be plenty of months of diminished colour.



I'm holding on to the glow of this year's autumn.

Juggling Computers

I have been on the organizing committee of the K12 Online Conference for about five years. This year we have opted for a different format - a keynote followed a few days later with a panel discussion. The first of these took place on November 3 with Julie Lindsay and 8 panelists. I had the privilege of introducing them, but also had a second computer recording with Camtasia in case of the unlikely chance that the YouTube recording would have glitches. Colour and Rhythm

I was at Place des Arts and, as I had time to spare before the show, I strolled into the corridor which leads from one area with theatres to another. There is always an interesting light presentation and this one certainly caught my eyes - in fact I stood a while enjoying the dance of colour and pattern.



I have always been a fan of animation and grew up watching Norman McLaren films. This reminded me a bit of some of his early films  (e.g. Lines )when he was drawing on film. I can only imagine what he would have been able to do with a medium like this.



What a canvas to create on! A joy to watch as colour, pattern and rhythm combined.

A Golden Time of Year

It's a golden time of year. The sun rises later casting its golden glow on buildings. The fall colours linger, though the bright reds are fewer.



Lawns are carpeted with leaves while the trees' covering gets sparser. November - the month when colour slowly drains out of the landscape.



But for now it is still golden.

Jewellery Pouches

I have a number of pieces of jewellery. Most are not of much monetary value but of sentimental value. Pieces I picked up on travels, pieces I received as gifts and pieces I inherited live in my drawer in this variety of pouches. I'm beginning to think I like collecting the pouches as much as the jewellery - they too, come with memories of how they were acquired. I am not always systematic about what I put back where so some days the search leads me through a number of these containers before finding the piece I want. I linger over the memories as I hunt, reminders of people, of places and of events.
