Dinnertime

Pesto

Garlic is a flavour I love. And garlic with basil is even better. Tonight's dinner was pesto: pasta, small scallops and lots of lightly cooked vegetables - all coated with pesto. Very tasty!

Salad

A side dish of salad with a balsamic vinegar dressing rounded out the meal. Life is good.

Heirloom Tomatoes

Heirloom Tomatoes

Dinner with my daughter at Les Enfants Terribles. The salad made with heirloom tomatoes and watermelon was a delight - with tastes and textures that were surprising. What looks like young mozarella is actually a sorbet made with celery root. There were crunchy surprises including the green sprigs.

Crazy Salad

This was my salad - grilled chicken with watercress, mango and peanuts and an explosion of I am not sure what. Very tasty!

Dining al Fresco

Dining al Fresco by susanvg

Warm weather encourages everyone to enjoy the outdoors. Gardening, walking, sports and, of course, dining al fresco. Why does food taste better when you eat outdoors?

I think dining outdoors encourages slowing down. And we can all use a little more of that in our lives.

May 22/10: Appetizer

May 22/10: Appetizer, originally uploaded by susanvg.

Sometimes you just have to treat yourself to a nice dinner out and that's just what we did! The weather has turned hot so eating on the balcony of the restaurant in the warm evening air was perfect. We dined, not just ate - with a few courses (this was the smoked salmon appetizer) and wine. There is something special about eating al fresco. It slows life down.
