Fall's Frenzy

In October Mother Nature seems to send a little madness, painting and repainting the trees. A once staid scene in sensible green slowly breaks out into reds, oranges and yellows.



Each day brings changes. My eyes feast on the riot of colour.

Ivies join the colour changes before leaving buildings barren.




Slowly the yellows predominate, glorious on a sunny day. But grey skies seem to be more frequent.

The magic of autumn is slowly ebbing as grey, rainy days set in. While October featured reds and oranges, the landscape is slowly moving to sepia.




Up on Mount Royal, the fallen leaves carpet the ground. On the first day after changing the clocks it is noticeable how by 3:00 the shadows are long as we enter into a period of early sunsets and long nights.

Autumn Colours

Photographing has taught me to find beauty everywhere. I went for a walk with a friend in a park that we like - unfortunately our photographic opportunities were curtailed by renovation being done in the park. A wooden walkway across the swamp has been demolished to be replaced by a more solid one. so we had to get back in the car and enter the park from the other side.



Autumn has certainly taken hold with dried out flowers and coloured leaves.



There is delicacy even in decay.



While some trees have already lost leaves, others are holding on to theirs. Flashes of red stand out against the green of the plants that remain.



Back at home I walked through the park. This is truly a glorious season.

Walking up to Summit Park

The city's leaves are also changing. Their display is never quite as intense as in the country but I still find myself stopping to admire.



This splash of colour begged to be noticed.



Gardens, too are in a state of change. Some flowers show signs of retreat while others are still at their peak of glory.



Each tree in its time - while some stay green, others lose their green pigments faster.



No walk up to Summit Park should be without a stop to look over the city.



Autumn, like spring, is a time of constant change - all the more reason to get outside so as not to miss these glorious moments.

A Season of Colour

Autumn is a glorious season with leaves flaunting their changing colours. Reds and oranges, yellows and the remaining greens. Each day brings new changes to the palette.



Change creeps in. Bits of leaves with dabs of paint - not yet fully transformed.



The reds are often among the first to appear.



The forest is home to many deer - silent, watching, aware.



We walked along the Parc Linéaire - le P'tit Train du Nord. Admiring. Breathing in the smells of autumn.

The Palette Changes to Bronze

It has been a most magnificent autumn with the colours lasting longer, plenty of sunny days and many days with above average temperatures. There are still trees that hang on to their leaves. With some exceptions, the yellows and reds have given way to the bronzes.



I love the crunching sound as I walk through the drying leaves. As I did as a child, the children play in the leaves - it says autumn to me.



Squirrels are feasting in the crab apple trees, fattening up before the temperatures drop and they spend more time in their dens. Now there is plenty to eat. Winter will be harder.



Night falls early. The supermoon rose on the horizon - a beautiful sight. A peaceful end to a beautiful autumn day.

Fall Takes its Time

While some trees are now bare, others still sport their green leaves. Change happens differently for each growing thing.



It has been a beautiful fall with colours lasting beyond the usual date. That is one advantage of photographing regularly - I have historical records with which I can compare the changing of the seasons.



I have no complaints about this lingering autumn. There will still be plenty of months of diminished colour.



I'm holding on to the glow of this year's autumn.

The Colours Continue

Perfect reflections make for a beautiful start to a day. The sun-drenched hills glow; the sky promises another perfect fall day.



Wisps of mist dance on the water.



On our morning walk we watch the leaves pirouette down to the ground.

We spent the afternoon playing music with friends, sight-reading through Hasse, Schickhardt, Loeillet, Quantz... The delights of shared passion. Though I did sometimes gaze wistfully out the window at the autumn trees.



A late afternoon walk along the trail of the Parc Linéaire le Petit Train du Nord at Val David. Some odd sculptures were on display.



I prefer the natural sculptures - the forms the plants take as they dry up.



And more reflections - the lacy branches meet the plants at the edge of the water.

Autumn in the City

A walk on Mont-Royal always restores the soul. We are so fortunate to have access to nature in the middle of our city. This is not just manicured parkland, but natural forest, as well.



I think this is sumac. The bright red leaves wave in the breeze like flames.



It does not matter how many years I have seen autumn changes, each year brings moments of amazing beauty.



Oranges, reds, yellows - the trees seem to be on fire.



Each tree in its time, depending on species, exposure, altitude... takes its turn to change out of its summer greens. And we get to enjoy the whole spectacle.

In All Its Glory

The glory of autumn is hard to describe - that incredible riot of colour as the trees are painted in fiery hues.

It happens in stages as each kind of tree has its time. The colours move from reds to oranges and yellow and then the browns take precedence.  The city always is slower than the outlying areas - the climate is affected by the density of buildings and vehicles.

The wonders of autumn continually surprise me; the beauty of the season can never be ignored despite its annual occurrence. Each year brings a new feast for the eyes.

Turning Red

Autumn is settling in. Reds, oranges and yellows are becoming more prevalent as the days get shorter. We have not had much cold weather but the shorter hours of daylight have signalled to the trees to start their fall festivities.



Bit by bit each tree transforms - a technicolour show before the landscape fades.

Changes

Leaves lie scattered on the ground.
Slow decay



First frost touches ground
soon to be burned off by the warming sun.

We walked enjoying the autumn chill.
November is coming.
