Sad Snowman

This poor snowman is in a state of decay. The rain has been falling lightly, but much more in the forecast. Its time will be short.

Behind it is Westmount Conservatory, another sad story. Early in the autumn one of the glass panels fell from the ceiling (learn more here). As this is an old style green house, it takes special craftspeople to fix it. So no winter escape to this oasis. I shall especially miss the spring flower exhibit which usually opens in March when snow is still on the ground. I am sure the city will get it repaired, but it will be a long costly process.

Finding Colour Indoors

As outdoors the colours fade to sepia, indoors at the Westmount Conservatory colour abounds. As stroll through just lifts the spirits. This was helped by music wafting through - an accordion player was practicing by the little pool around the corner.




I'll let the flowers speak for themselves. Enjoy their happy colours which can warm a cold day.

In the Conservatory

Outside the snow slowly recedes
A winter’s worth of dirt
Revealed
Newly uncovered grass
Is soppy sepia
Colours still stripped
From the city


   

I step inside the conservatory
Into spring
A riot of colour
Shocks my winter weary eyes
Tulips in every shade
The lush yellows of the daffodils
Exude the warmth of sun.

   

I wander through this oasis
Each bloom beckoning
Begging to be admired
Focus my camera
Catch their beauty
For all to enjoy



Slowly meandering
Not ready to go back
To the lingering winter
A delightful respite
To be savoured

There are signs outside
That once again
This display of colour
Will spill outdoors
And spring will take hold.

November sometimes gets me down. The bright fall foliage has been replaced by grey skies. I've learned strategies over the years to help chase away November blues.

Flower therapy! I stepped into the conservatory near my local library. The atmosphere is tranquil. People step in and just enjoy the serenity. These sunny blooms lightened my mood.

While the snow is receding, it leaves the accumulated winter dirt, mud and brown grass behind. Outdoors the shoots are just starting to poke out of the ground. I stopped in at the Westmount Conservatory where there was a show of spring blooms. What a delightful place with people enjoying the colours as they sat on benches or strolled around. We are colour-starved this time of year.



Young and old delighted in the abundance of colour. And what a peaceful atmosphere! I must take a book there some day and just sit and enjoy.



I'm told they change the exhibit four times a year. For now, it was delightful to get an advance peek at spring possibilities. It will be a while before I see these growing outdoors!
