A Cold Start to the Year

Untitled by susanvg

Brrr - January 1 and the temperatures keep going down. On Tuesday I bundled up with several layers (long underwear is my friend) and walked to do my errands. With no wind it was bearable, but now...

And Colder

I just checked the weather site.

I don't think my many layers will suffice - too many layers and you can't move fast enough to stay warm! It's cozy in my home - (though I will venture out later by car to play music with friends) with a nice cup of coffee.

Wishing all my friends, both those I know face to face and those I know virtually through their photographs and words good health in 2014. May you continue to spread the warmth of your friendship!

The New Year Blooms

Yellow
Photos: January 1, 2013

The new year comes at the coldest part of the year here. Outside the temperatures are plummeting. It seems a funny time to start a year, though maybe it is a good time for reflection. The longer nights leave less time for outdoor sports and more time indoors. Now, more than ever, I need my indoor garden to remind me of growth possibilities. While outdoors, the landscape has turned white, inside I treasure the plants and flowers.

Winter is a time for dormancy - though that does not mean that growth stops. Plants and animals need that time to recharge and I think we do too. Electricity has permitted us to forget about living to the light of the sun, but I do believe the dark evenings remind our bodies to rest more so our minds can spend more time in thought. How else can we nourish our souls to make the year blossom!?

Heat Seeking

New Year's eve is a time when we stop and look back and reflect on the year gone by. Although reflection and taking stock may be part of our lives with goal setting happening at various points of the year, the end of year thoughts are not just about assessing the year, but also about remembering.

I wish all my friends, both those I know face to face and my virtual friends a healthy and fulfilling year, full of the warmth of friendship. My life is richer for knowing you. For those I know only through their online presence, I learn so much from your thoughts, photos and wise words that you share so generously. I'm looking forward to another year of growth.

Jan 1/10 - Happy New Year

Jan 1/10 - Happy New Year, originally uploaded by susanvg.

Another year begins with good intentions. I refuse to make resolutions as we all know what happens to those. I look forward to a year of more photographs and writing and honing both. I hope to find, or should I say make the time to learn more about photography. Any pointers are welcome. I also look forward to cultivating my online relationships, and to continuing to see the world with my newly focussed eyes.

My blog name no longer made sense - so today is day one of Through My Eyes. It will probably cut down on my hits as many seemed to be in response to a search for 365 stories. So as the new year starts I welcome those who stop by to share my world as I look through my eyes and mull over what I see.
