Nothing quite soothes the soul like a walk in nature. A friend and I went to Centre écologique Fernand-Seguin. Spring is taking hold with the early flowers pushing past the drying leaves.

Trout Lily

Trout lilies are one of the first to grow their sunny faces shyly looking down. All around we could hear the calls of birds.

Chickadee

Chickadees flitted nearby. They do not seem to be afraid of people.

Red Trillium

There were many trillium leaves poking up, but only a few red flowers have opened up. Their scarcity made each one a treasure.

Rotting

My camera helps me focus, to see things I might otherwise overlook.

Belgian Waffle

Belgian Waffle

Belgian Waffle, a photo by susanvg on Flickr.
A new little place to eat opened recently in Casselman. You can get homemade soup and sandwiches. The owner is originally from Belgium and she makes typical Belgian waffles. I only eyed this one as I spooned up my broccoli soup. Tempting though it was, January the guilt kicks in and I try yet again to live a healthy lifestyle.

In the Woods

This was preceded by a walk in the woods. There is just enough snow to feel like winter, but not enough to go snowshoeing. But the bright blue sky and pristine white was a delightful treat after many grey days.

May 24/10 Through the Woods

May 24/10 Through the Woods, originally uploaded by susanvg.

A walk through Summit Park always feels like a walk through an oasis in the middle of a city. The dirt paths lead through the woods. City sounds are muffled, replaced by bird songs and the raucous sounds of crows.

I feel a bit as if I am lost in the woods as I try to understand my new camera. It's a steep learning curve. I hope I come out the winner. I'm not yet convinced!
