Utensils

We're house-sitting, dog-sitting, being a support to father / in-law. I find it hard to cook in someone else's kitchen. Nothing is where I expect it to be and the herbs or spices I usually use are not necessarily available. So cooking simple meals is sometimes complicated - a treasure hunt through drawers and cupboards to find what I need.

Daily Shoot: What tools do you use and appreciate on a daily basis? Make an interesting photo of one such tool today.

Ok - it's more than one tool - but this pot of tools sits next to my stove and gets used regularly. I have always wanted to be one of those people who has clear counters and other surfaces - but I am a much better clutterer than a cleaner. This pot helps things somewhat organized.

Last night I had friends over for dinner. Once they were colleagues; now they are friends. Three bright ladies - conversation is always interesting and laughter accompanies every meeting. We usually meet in a restaurant, but last night we celebrated my new kitchen with a home-cooked meal.

Days of packing are over and now I live in a haze of dust. Demolition was speedy. Tomorrow the electrician, plumber other workmen start the lengthy process of rebuilding. It's odd to see the "bones" of the house - the wood floor that was laid in 1936. The kitchen had been redone since then. I wonder what the original one looked like.
