Determination

Sunny Yellow

These hardy flowers flourish
In early spring's chill
Their sunny disposition
Announces spring's arrival

It Starts

Spring is determined
Shoots push their way up
Through barely defrosted ground
With low growing flowers showing their faces

Scylla

Scylla dances out of the garden
It loves to play outside the lines
First green on the winter matted grass
Spreading the joy of a new beginning

And so begin the rapid growth and changes
Spring sets in motion
As the plants awake
From their long winter sleep.

Starting to Thaw

What a difference 100 km (about 60 miles) and some moderate mountains makes! It is like going back in season. We went to the Laurentians for a couple of days - to Trout Lake near Ste-Agathe. Spring is taking a tentative hold, but the ice is not ready to leave the lake. On the south-facing side of the lake, much of the snow has melted, but the other side still has plenty of snow.

Heron

A hardy heron hunts hopefully at the edge of the lake, the only spot that is free of ice. I don't know how those skinny legs can abide the frigid water.
