Detours

Detours

Go around
Find a new route
Pylons dot the city
Springing up in new places
On a daily basis
Growing faster
Than spring flowers

Life, too
Has its detours
Leading over rocky roads
Past unexpected events
No road map to prepare
For the sudden changes

Detours can lead
to unvisited side roads
Unanticipated explorations
Off the beaten path
New ideas grow
New adventures

I've had my share of detours
Times of growth
Learning strength
Then setting a new course
Travelling through life
Until the next detour
Never knowing where it will lead

Roadwork

This time of year, driving through Montreal is a series of detours as the warm months provide time for badly needed repairs to the infrastructure. Here old water pipes are being replaced. Several years ago the city lost over 40% of its treated water to leaks. We are now down as the city s l o w l y replaces the aged pipes. Streets have to be dug up and the work takes a long time. No left turn here!

June 10/10: Detour

June 10/10: Detour, originally uploaded by susanvg.

A rainy trip home on a day of London like weather. The road took a detour. Life's like that. Detours can be long and annoying but they can also be the path to new adventures. Life is always throwing us curves that force us to take detours from our regular path. Often these detours cause us to reflect on our lives - what really matters, what we want to be doing and we come out of this enriched.
