As the sky darkened I tried to catch the lights dancing on the blackness. The city is riveted to the hockey playoffs as our beloved Habs, after clawing their way into the playoffs, have made it to the conference finals. As I was growing up, Les Canadiens were frequent winners of the Stanley Cup. Recent years have been a period of darkness, with the team not performing strongly enough to light up the eyes of their fans. Now the city is alive with hockey fever.

Just no more drunken riots, please....

Daily Shoot: Black can be dramatic. Go for as much black in a photo as you can with lots of oomph, character, and depth.

I tried to catch the moon tonight. As I drove home from rehearsal I saw it hanging low. I changed my trajectory and headed up to Westmount lookout, but the moon had already risen higher. My night shots still need work.

I have always loved radio and remember as a child, listening to Saturday mornings on CBC when there was a show for children. Each week a new story was featured and one Saturday it was James Thurber's Many Moons. I loved that story and have thought of it often over the years. Stories stick with us and sometimes colour the way we see the world. As I saw the moon caught in some branches I remembered Princess Lenore from the story and how she wanted to have the moon. And for a moment I was back in the living room of the house I grew up in, listening and imagining and time stood still.

We had to go on an unplanned trip to Toronto as my spouse's mother is in failing health. We flew in clear skies and were able to enjoy the city lights as we took off. I often think about city lights as I live on a hill and regularly see parts of our city spread out below me (though not at this height). They seem so magical and festive, yet I think also of the amount of electricity needed to light all these lights. I know that I have to train myself to be more conscientious about closing lights that are not being used. Our politicians in Canada seem to be willing to delay making and commiting to environmental policies. After all, what is more important the economy today or the future of the planet! We, as individuals have to do what we can to change and push those in power to face the reality of what we have done to the planet. Some changes just can't wait.
