Potential

Potential

Anyone who has followed my blog for a while knows I love orchids. Their complex blossoms fascinate me. They last so long. The fact that they re-bloom is a huge bonus. This orchid has been dormant for quite a while but these buds will be opening soon. They are the gift that keeps giving.

Just click here and you will see some of the many posts I have devoted to orchids.

March 20 and the trees are budding

It's eerie how spring has taken hold so early. Temperatures this week have been more like early summer than late winter. Temperature records have been shattered. The trees are taking advantage of the warmth to open up their buds.

It's bizarre to see people in shorts and tshirts, some in sandals in March. Usually there is still snow on the ground and while daytime temperatures are above freezing, nights are usually below. Average daytime temperature for yesterday was 4C (about 9F) Yesterday it was 24C (about 75F). Climate change? I just read an article about the dates trees bloom here. the trend over the past 15 years has been a shift of two weeks earlier than in the past. I don't know how people can still say climate change isn't happening.

Beginnings

Beginnings, originally uploaded by susanvg.
Daily Shoot: Make a photo illustrating a fresh start, a new beginning, or the first step to a goal.
This cyclamen rewards me with new blooms. Like me, the plant has been around a while but it constantly creates new growth. New Year's is always a time to stop and reflect, to ponder whether the path we are on is the one we want to be taking, to set goals to tweak our lives and thus create new growth. Life is in constant change - the changes that happen to us and the changes we make happen. We have to tend our inner gardens well, to nourish, to find the sunshine and to revel in our own blooms.
Wishing all my friends new growth and a year full of blossoming dreams.
