July 17/10: Dog Days of Summer

July 17/10: Dog Days of Summer, originally uploaded by susanvg.

The heat continues, punctuated by some heavy showers. Today, again we have a severe thunderstorm watch in the weather forecast. The hot sun is obscured by clouds now and rumbles can be heard. If you want to know about the expression "the dog days of summer" click here.

This morning we had brunch at a restaurant and tried to stay cool indoors with no air conditioning. The coffee did not help cool me down. This dog was on the outdoor terrace (photo through the window), happily munching on ice from a bowl.

I am not a fan of the heat, especially with the high humidity. Maybe munching on ice is the answer - or at least on ice cream.

In the space of writing this - the rains started, pelting on the roof. It will soon pass, hopefully leaving cooler temperatures behind it.

  1. What an adorable pup! Hope you cool down soon - we don't necessarily enjoy the extreme heat and humidity here in southwest FL, but it is expected, so one moves from one air-conditioned place to another!

  2. That's why I like autumn and spring- not too much of one or the other.

  3. I'd be melting and still drinking hot coffee with you! Did you receive my birthday greeting on the former post? I see it's not there. Sometimes, I type the wrong test word, and I don't realize the comment didn't go through.

  4. If it's not raining here, it's hot and humid, although earlier this evening a strong wind blew through and cleared the air. I did a report on the dog days of summer in the 8th grade!

  5. Smart puppy! Ours are pretty spoiled with air conditioning. They've been sunbathing for a few minutes and then heading back in with their tongues hanging low to the ground. Just think, soon you'll be away from the heat.

  6. What a lucky dog! We're having the same heat and humidity here. Usually we just have a few days of it on and off all summer but this time it doesn't seem to want to leave. We fill up a kiddie pool to help our dog stay cool. Hope we all cool off soon.

  7. The dog days of summer are here in Georgia as well! Very oppressive! Can't wait for fall weather but think it will be a while. This dog has the right idea! Good close up!
