June 8/10: The Art Budget

The Art Budget, originally uploaded by susanvg.

I was at a meeting at a vocational school. The building was only built two years ago. In Quebec all new public buildings must spend 1% of the building budget on art. This piece, Le souffle de l'avenir (the wind of the future) is by artists Joëlle and Rolf Morosoli.

It is wonderful to know that artists have some opportunity for public commissions. And it certainly adds flair to the building.

  1. What a great idea - to have art on or at all public buildings! The colors and movement of the sculptures sure liven up this gray building.

  2. How lucky these buildings are to have such an art budget! I love the colors in this shot!

  3. The art work on the walls is truly delightful. I wish our country had a similar system to require public buildings to invest in art! Certainly worth supporting.

  4. Definitely a nice touch. It's amazing what one can do with 1%. The art work reminds me of the outside of my goddaughter's circus school. It's an old church that's been renovated.
